The Bucs tennis team competed in the ITA All-American prequalifying tournament at the Lincoln Tennis Center in Stone Mountain, Ga., last weekend.
Senior Roberto Fernandez and junior Pablo Sahagun advanced to the third round in doubles action, where they were defeated, 8-3, by the Furman team of Chris Henderson and Eric Ward.
Fernandez and Sahagun advanced to the third round after defeating UCLA’s Ryan McNaughton and Derrick Nguyen in the first round.
The Buccaneer duo then defeated Iowa’s Petar Mandic and Stuart Waters in the second round.
In singles competition, Sahagun advanced to the fourth round of the tournament, defeating Samford Raphel Bohli, 7-5 and 6-4 in the third round.
In the fourth, however, Sahagun dropped a tough match to Baylor’s Marcus Hornung, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Fernandez also competed in singles competition, falling to Sansaruz Zaman of the University of Alabama-Birmingham, 7-5 and 6-1.
ETSU’s Francisco Diaz competed in singles competition.
Diaz advanced to the second round after defeating Sean O’Connor of UC-Irvince, 6-4 and 7-5.
In the second round, however, Diaz fell to Baylor’s Matias Marin, 6-2 and 6-0.
