Lisa Gallagher is making the most of her senior year as the forward for ETSU soccer this season.
After working as the midfield for the last two years, Gallagher has easily moved into her new position.
In the 2000 season she started in all 18 of the matches and was ranked third in goals (4) and points (10), and finished second in shots on goal (20).
Her season high was two goals on two shots in the Oct. 3rd game against South Carolina State, in which the girls triumphed 8-0.
She is the Bucs’ all-time leader with 15 goals in her career.
Born on June 16, 1980, Gallagher is a microbiology major interested in a medical career after graduation.
She has proved herself worthy as a varsity soccer player since her days in high school, when she earned four varsity letters at Science Hill High School.
She also received All-State honors after her sophomore and junior seasons, All-Conference and All-Region honors for all four years.
She scored a total of 53 goals, tallied 22 assists during her prep career and became a member of the Olympic Develop-mental squad in 1994.
Gallagher began her collegiate career in 1998, starting in all 19 games.
She led the team with seven goals and 17 points and also was tied for second on the team with three assists.
She had a total of 38 shots, two game-winning goals and tallied the game-winning overtime goal in the team’s victory over Chattanooga, 3-0.
After tallying one goal and one assist in her first collegiate game against Mars Hill, Gallagher received Southern Conference and Buccaneeer All-Academic honors.
In 1999, she led the team with 12 points, four assists and four goals.
She also had 29 shots for another team record.
She scored the game-winning goal in the 4-2 victory against UT-Martin on Sept. 26. This was just the tip of the iceberg for the dynamic midfielder, as she came up with two goals against the Skyhawks, four assists in her first five games with scores against Wofford and Charleston Southern.
This year Gallagher has already started with one goal, two assists, four points, 16 shots, and nine shots on goal.
She knows what the Lady Bucs must do to stay alive in the games ahead.
“We’re a young team,” Gallagher said.
“We still have to practice hard and teamwork is important.”
In fact, one of her favorite things about the game of soccer is the teamwork involved.
With the senior forward as one of the leading players, the Bucs will next take on Furman at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Liberty Bell Soccer Field.
The Bucs’ next home game will be Oct. 19 vs. Gardner-Webb.
