The ETSU soccer team was shutout, 6-0, on a rainy Sunday by the Furman Paladins in a Southern Conference matchup at the Liberty Bell Soccer Complex.
Furman started the game quickly by scoring within the first three minutes.
Junior Lindsey Facciolo scored at the 2:44 mark with an assist from teammates Cary Blount and Kathy Gaertner.
ETSU held the Paladins until Facciolo tapped the ball in the goal at the 17:14 mark.
Blount scored a goal at the 29:40 mark by hitting the ball off a Buccaneer defender.
ETSU goalkeeper Heather Sanden earned three saves and was scored against on three occasions.
The Bucs switched goalkeepers to start the second half. Junior Lauren Fannon played in her third game this season.
After a back and forth battle in the second half, Furman’s Kaye Brownlee hit a header off a corner kick to score at the 76:14 mark.
Just a bit later, Paladin sophomore Danielle Petro scored from 15 yards out off a pass from Alice Martin.
At the 81:15 mark, Cristina Echavarry hit a shot from a cross pass to score Furman’s final goal of the game.
For the Bucs, junior Liz Smith shot the ball twice and freshman Jennifer Meslar had a shot on goal.
Fannon earned two saves and had three goals scored against her.
The Furman Paladins return home to face UT-Chattanooga in Greenville, S.C., on Friday.
The Bucs will host Gardner-Webb on Friday at 7 p.m. at Liberty Bell Soccer Complex.
Notes: Seniors Lisa Gallagher and Kristen Redfern currently rank high on ETSU’s soccer record books.
Gallagher is No. 1 all-time in goals scored (16), assists (11), points (43) and shots (110).
Redfern is ranked second in goals (14), points (35), shots (84) and is ranked third in assists (7).
