Rosaline Addo has been established as one of the household names in ETSU track and field.
Finishing fifth in the Southern Conference 200-meter dash (24:68) last April, Addo helped her team finish sixth for the meet.
She also beat out her teammate, Jennifer Howard, for the 400-meter title, held at the SoCon Track and Field Outdoor Championships, the two have gone one-two in the 400 four times for ETSU at the conference championships.
“She’s been very successful in the 400 meter,” said cross country/track and field coach Matt High.
“Her enthusiasm and energy is very high. She’s very much of a team leader.”
With this enthusiasm and energy, Addo has also been successful in cross country, taking fourth place at the Blue Ridge Open (Appalachian State) with a time of 18:57 for five kilometers.
She also was the Lady Bucs’ top finisher at the Catamount Classic (Western Carolina) where she placed seventh with a time at 13:35 for four kilometers.
Addo was selected as the 20002001 Female Athlete of the Year.
She has been the Bucs’ top runner in the 400 and in cross country.
The outgoing, friendly junior from Newbury, England has definitely earned the respect of her coaches and peers in the process.
“Rosaline’s a hard worker,” High said of her commitment to the team. “She’s very committed to her goals and dreams.
“If you never give yourself the chance (in sports) you’ll never know.”
“Rosaline has that determination. Her work ethic couldn’t be better,” High said.
As for future plans, Addo is an economics major with a 4.0 GPA and plans to continue her studies here in the states.
“I like the experience of America,” Addo said. “It allows me to concentrate on my goals and skills.”
Track is definitely on her list of future plans.
How exactly does she plan to go about it?
“Focusing, just trying to get in shape for next year,” she said. “Basically, just meeting my goals and achieving my own standards, making it to nationals.”
That should not be a problem.
