Friday night’s game against Gardner-Webb proved to be a 1-4 loss for the Bucs, despite the team’s hustle and hard work.
The first half started off rough, with two goals made nearly back-to-back by Bulldog midfielder Kim O’ Brien, thrusting Gardner-Webb into the lead.
The first goal was at the 7:22 mark the second was only three minutes later.
Another Bulldogs (9-5-1) midfielder, Dawn Zimmerman, blocked a powerful shot from the Bucs.
Unable to get the offense going strong, the Bucaneers (1-11-1) were stuck in the midfield for most of the game.
Goalkeeper Laura Fannon had a total of eight saves in the game, missing four shots on the goal.
Senior Lisa Gallagher had two shots on goal and made the goal for ETSU in the second half of the match at the 72:31 mark.
Forward Kristin Redfern also made four shots with two on goal. She also had an assist that night.
Michelle Vander Vart of the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs came up strong in the second half, with three shots, two of them on goal and a goal to boost the Bulldogs up to the lead by three points.
Kim O’ Brien stood out, however, with six shots, four of them on goal and three goals scored.
The junior midfielder gave the Bucs a lethal combination of strength and speed throughout the game.
Towards the end of the second half, the Lady Bucs kept the Bulldogs from making any more goals against them.
The defense was much stronger, but the offense just could not get anymore goals in.
The next game for the Bucs is in Charleston, S.C., against the Citadel Bulldogs at 3p.m.
The Bucs’ next home game is Nov. 4th against Wofford, which is also Senior Day.
Notes: Gallagher’s goal on the night gave her 17 for her career at ETSU.
She is the Bucs’ all-time leader in that category as well as assists (11), points (44) and shots.
Redfern’s assist marked the eighth of her career, as she ranks third on ETSU’s career list.
Redfern is also second all-time at ETSU in career goals (14), points (36) and shots.
