Family members from ETSU’s department of music will perform in the free recital “An American Tribute” on Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. in Mathes Hall.
The Veteran’s Day concert will feature vocal, trumpet, clarinet, oboe and flute solos with piano accompaniment. A diverse group of works by American and European composers will be presented.
“It is certainly honoring our veterans and our current military and all of our wonderful heroes from Sept. 11,” said Rebecca Paluzzi, associate professor of the flute and director of the Suzuki Studies Program.
Paluzzi said the recital is not composed of patriotic tunes. However, faculty members will present music that pays tribute to the optimistic and resilient spirit of Americans.
She said this is a time of healing, remembering and looking forward. The pieces that each performer presents will be those that have a special meaning for them in these difficult times.
“We have all chosen pieces that are significant to us in the light if this,” she said.
Paluzzi said although the concert is paying tribute to the sacrifices made by veterans, it will be a celebratory event.
“It’s just an honor and a tribute, and I think it will be very uplifting,” she said.
The concert is sponsored by the department of music.
