The Buccaneer volleyball team was upset by Davidson, 25-30, 30-22, 31-33, 30-24 and 11-15 on Friday night at Belk Arena in Davidson, N.C.
Davidson (13-16, 10-9) held a five-point advantage in the fifth game at 11-6, but the Bucs battled back to get within two at 13-11, but that would be as close as they would get, falling 15-11 and losing the match 3-2.
In the opening game, ETSU (19-5, 14-5) jumped out to a 4-1 lead before Davidson claimed the lead at 7-6 and would not relinquish it, winning game one, 30-25.
The Bucs trailed 6-4 in game two before rattling off six consecutive points to open a 10-6 lead. ETSU then pushed its lead to as large as nine to win game two, 30-22.
Game three went back and forth with Davidson holding a three-point advantage at 29-26, but the Bucs evened the score at 29 behind kills by Amber Ciskowski and Karen Freeburg. Davidson would, however, eventually win game three, 33-31.
ETSU cruised in game four, with the score tied 14-14, the Bucs took eight of the next 10 points and won, 30-24.
ETSU senior Carey Cavanaugh registered a triple-double to lead the Bucs, registering 14 kills, 45 assists and 17 digs.

The Bucs defeated UNC Greensboro 3-1 (30-26, 27-30, 32-30, 30-28) on Saturday afternoon in Greensboro.
ETSU ended the regular season with a 20-5 overall record nad 15-5 in the Southern Conference, while UNCG fell to 2-29 and 2-18 in the conference.
The Bucs earned at least a tie for second place in the conference.
ETSU looked to cruise away with the first game, as it led 17-8, but UNCG refused to go quietly, closing to within one-point at 22-21. The Bucs held strong, and took the win in game one, 30-26.
The Spartans of UNCG started out quickly in game two, taking a 15-7 advantage.
ETSU cut the lead to four at 17-13, and stayed close the rest of the game, and came within two at 27-25.
But the Spartans would prevail 30-27, in the process taking their first game since winning three at The Citadel on Oct. 27.
In game three, the Bucs held a 24-18 lead, but once again UNCG rallied, tying the game at 28-28.
But the Spartans could not take the lead and ETSU won game three, 32-30.
UNCG again took a quick lead in game four at 8-3. ETSU would tie the score at 12-12 and neither team led by more than two points the rest of the game.
With the score 29-28 in the Bucs’ favor, a kill gave them the win, 30-28, and the match.
Karen Freeburg led ETSU with 17 kills and 16 digs, while Amber Ciskowski added 15 kills and 12 digs.
Also finishing in double figures for kills was Lissa Allen (14 kills, 14 digs) and Kate Steidle (10 kils, 12 digs).
