The Buccaneer baseball team announced its 2002 schedule including 56 games, 29 home dates with five Southern Conference three-game series.
Also included in the home schedule is a three-game set with Indiana out of the Big 10 Conference.
There are also 21 games against teams that made the NCAA tournament in 2001, including matchups with South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Middle Tennessee State.
ETSU will open its season on Feb. 15 at national power South Carolina. The Bucs SoCon schedule will begin with a three-game series at Wofford on March 9.
“We look forward to an extremely challenging schedule,” said head coach Tony Skole. “With the always tough teams in the Southern Conference and the outstanding teams from the state of Tennessee, the schedule presents an exciting challenge.”
Twelve of ETSU’s 21 games against NCAA teams from a year ago will come on the road.
“We want to play n the toughest environments as possible,” Skole said. “That is the only way we will ever learn to compete on a national level.”
All the conference home games will be played on Friday nights and Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Friday games will begin at 7 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday contests will start at 2 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
ETSU concluded its fall practice on Oct. 12 and will welcome back seven position players and 10 pitchers from the 2001 squad.
