The ETSU men’s basketball team was defeated, 85-62, by the 11th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers on Sunday afternoon in Charlottesville, Va.
After winning their season opener, 90-61, against Guilford College, the Bucs faced a much tougher task against the Cavaliers.
Trailing by 11 points at halftime, 42-31, ETSU stayed consistent in the second half, scoring 31 points again, but Virginia’s offense also stayed consistent, scoring 43 points to take a 23-point win.
The Bucs shot just 34.8 percent from the field (23-66 fg) and were only four of 12 from three-point range.
Sophomore forward Jerald Fields led the Bucs in scoring for the second consecutive game with 12 points on five of 10 shooting from the field.
Fields also tied for the team-lead in rebounds with six and had two blocked shots.
Wadood tied Fields for the team lead in scoring (12) and rebounding (6).
Freshman Tiras Wade also reached double figures in the scoring column for ETSU with 11 points on five of 12 shooting from the floor.
The Bucs will next play Virginia Commonwealth on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Richmond, Va.
