The ETSU women’s basketball team lost its first game of the season, 76-58, to James Madison University on Sunday afternoon at the JMU Convocation Center in Harrisonburg, Va.
The Lady Bucs trailed 37-22 at halftime after shooting just 31 percent on nine of 29 from the field as a team.
In the second half, ETSU was outscored 39-36, for a 76-58 final.
The Lady Bucs,however, did shoot slightly better in the second half as they were 14 of 39 from the field (35.9 percent).
ETSU shot 33.8 percent from the floor for the game, but were eight of 23 from behind the three-point line (34.8 percent).
JMU shot 51.9 percent for the game on 28 of 54 shooting from the field and were five of 13 from three-point range.
The Lady Bucs were led by senior Erin Thurman, who scored 19 points on eight of 16 shooting from the floor, including three of six from behind the three-point line.
Thurman also dished out three assists and grabbed three rebounds in a team-high 35 minutes of action for ETSU.
Sophomore forward Lauren Trantham also had a good day for the Lady Bucs scoring eight points and grabbing 10 rebounds in 23 minutes.
JMU had three players reach double figures in scoring, with Allyson Keener leading the way with 17 points, Nadine Morgan scoring 15 points and Katie Hardbarger recorded 10 points.
The Lady Bucs will next play Coastal Carolina on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
