The Wofford Terriers snapped ETSU’s three-game winning streak with a 24-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Terriers (4-6, 3-4) took a 7-0 lead with 6:26 to go in the first quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by J.R. McNair, capping a 13-play, 78-yard scoring drive.
McNair had 14 carriers for 83 yards for Wofford.
Wofford struck again at the 12:47 mark in the second quarter on another one-yard touchdown run, this time by Melvin Jones, who had 23 carries for 76 yards.
Wofford rushed for a total of 322 yards as a team, as the Bucs (5-5, 3-4) were only able to gain 85 yards on the ground.
ETSU finally got on the score board with 49 seconds remaining in the first half as Con Chellis connected on a 21-yard field goal to make the score 14-3.
That was as close as the Bucs could get.
The Terriers added a 20-yard field goal by Darren Brown at the 6:01 mark in the third quarter to give them a 17-3 lead.
Wofford then added another touchdown when Nick Haughey ran into the endzone from five yards out, giving theTerriers the 24-3 victory.
Senior quarterback Matt Wilhjelm completed 17 of 32 passes for 138 yards and threw two interceptions.
Wilhjelm also ran for 36 yards on nine carries, while running back Corey Carter had eight carries for 34 yards.
Wide receiver Cecil Moore had nine catches for 90 yards.
Linebacker Mike Cornegay led the defense with 11 tackles, eigth solo and three assisted.
Linebacker Jamal Rocke and safety Gerald Sensabaugh each had eight tackles for the Buccaneer defense.
The Bucs conclude their season at VMI on Thanksgiving.
The Bucs will clinch their third consecutive winning season with a victory over VMI.
