Nationally noted speaker Debbie Runions will present “HIV/AIDS: A Personal Perspective” during a free public lecture on Thursday night on the ETSU campus.
Her program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Martha Street Culp Auditorium of the Culp Center.
Runions has given over 900 talks to more than 100,000 people since testing positive for HIV in 1992.
A resident of Nashville, she served on the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS from 1995-99 and spoke at the 1996 Democratic National Convention. She has also presented at schools around the state as a consultant with the Tennessee State Department of Education for its HIV prevention program.
Runions has appeared twice on the “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee” show (now “Live with Regis and Kelly”) and is a freelance journalist for The Tennessean in Nashville. Her appearance at ETSU will serve as a prelude to “World AIDS Day,” which is Dec. 1.
The event is sponsored by the ETSU Department of Health Sciences, College of Public and Allied Health, and Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
