Members of the men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Blue Heaven Rumble at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, on Saturday.
The Lady Bucs’ top finish came from their 4×400-meter relay team of Roseline Addo, Uloma Nwagbara, Ashley Taylor and Nichola Cornish, which finished second overall with a time of 3 minutes and 51.84 seconds.
ETSU also received a top three finish from Addo in the 800-meter run, with her third place effort in 2:12.73.
Freshman Chantelle Vernon finished 11th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.72 after breaking her own school record of 7.64 in the preliminary heats with a time of 7.63.
Nwagbara placed ninth in the 400-meter dash in 57.66 with senior Jennifer Howard 17th in 58.18.
On the men’s side, senior Josh Artau had the Bucs’ top finish with an 11th place effort in the shot put with a throw of 49 feet 1.75 inches.
Freshman Brad Yewer ran a season-best time in the mile run, running 4:26.54, while another freshman James Grufferty ran a season-best 8:45.38 for 15th place in the 3000-meter run.
Members of both squads will next compete in the Rod McCravy Invitational in Lexington, Ky., on Feb. 1.
Note: Chantelle Vernon was named the Southern Conference Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 23.
