The Buccaneer softball team dropped its first two games of the University of South Carolina Gamecock Invitational last weekend, falling to Jacksonville State, 2-0, and to Tennessee Tech, 5-0.In Saturday’s game, the Bucs’ (0-2) Marsha Giles and Jacksonville State’s Tara Ross pitched complete games.

ETSU’s had four hits on the afternoon from first baseman Melanie Collins, designated player Julia Chance, center fielder Danielle Spetar and shortstop Mary Beth Hazelwood.

In ETSU’s second game versus Tennessee Tech, the Bucs’ received a complete game from sophomore Tiffany Vandergriff, but were shut out, 5-0.

Vandergriff gave up nine hits in her seven innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out four, while Tennessee Tech’s Lori Bayless went 6.2 innings, striking out 12.

The Bucs got their lone hit from Hazelwood.
