With a shooting percentage of 38, powerful defense and high spirits, the Lady Paladins defeated the Lady Bucs on Tuesday night, 66- 54, in Memorial Center.
Forward Orion Wake led Furman with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. This is her eighth double-double for the season.
Mary Brock had 15 points and Althea Bufford followed close behind with 12 points overall, also boosting the score to 65-46 in the last half with her free throw.
Guard Kim Lawrence had eight points, seven rebounds and an impressive and team-high five assists.
“They kept the defensive pressure on us,” head coach Karen Kemp said of Furman’s victory. “Give them all the credit.”
Furman’s lead extended to 19 points three times in the game, the last one occurring with the clock at 1:53 in the second half.
A 10-point advantage at the break left Furman more confident in the first half, forcing ETSU into 13 turnovers.
It was during the first half that Wake scored a game-high 10 points and six rebounds for the Lady Paladins.
ETSU’s junior forward Misty Copas and freshman forward Candace Gibson had six points at the break, 10 points each for the game and for the overall team lead.
Candace Gibson and sophomore forward Lauren Trantham both had a team-high nine rebounds, and Trantham shortened the Furman lead to nine points with her layup, 18:51 left in the game.
ETSU shot just 4-for-17 from behind the three-point line and were also on 6-for-12 on their free-throw attempts.
The Lady Bucs are home once again on Saturday for their senior day.
It is ETSU’s last game of the regular season and is set to begin at 1 p.m. The SoCon tournament is Feb. 28-March 3.
