Overflowing trash cans, empty paper towel dispensers, and empty toilet paper holders are the sights I am seeing each day as I enter a variety of ladies’ rooms on campus.
First of all, I am by no means complaining about the bathrooms being under construction.
I am grateful the work is being done and that the restrooms are being redesigned to comply with disability laws.
Our restrooms here on campus have never been in bad shape, but I am sure there is always room for improvement.
But, the current situation of having half of the restrooms under construction, leaves the other half severely lacking in stocks of toilet paper and paper towels.
Also, with twice as many people using the same restroom they are more likely to get dirty faster.
I have found myself waiting in lines for only one available stall, because only that stall has toilet paper remaining.
Also, since I am talking about the restrooms, I also wanted to mention the problem of missing feminine hygiene disposals in the individual stalls.
I do want to first say thank you for the restrooms that do have these, like the Culp Center.
Others, like Rogers-Stout, are still very much behind the times. Perhaps some believe that because we are women and all of us must go through the same thing, that we could not possibly mind the minor inconvenience of not having the proper disposal area.
Well, they are wrong. I know I do mind. Surely, tiny little plastic boxes cannot cost that much, and if so I’ll be happy to help pay for them.
But, back to the current situation at hand.
I, on behalf of all the students I share these feelings with, please ask that while our bathrooms are under construction that we pay a bit more attention to those that are open.
Simply place a few extra rolls of toilet paper and paper towels in the restroom and please clean them with just a bit more detail.
Quickly, I also wanted to take the time to thank those who have already been taking the extra initiative to help the students, like the Culp Center for example. Other buildings, like Rogers-Stout where most of the students have class, I fear, is another story.
