The ETSU women’s soccer program adds two more student-athletes to their 2002 roster. Head coach Heather Henson announced the addition of Kerri Burke (Raleigh, N. C.) and Leslie Lopez (Mechanicsville, Va.) to the Buccaneer team.
“We are excited about adding two more talented student-athletes to our program,” said Coach Henson, “we believe their skill level, experience and personalities will nicely compliment the talent we have in place.”
Burke, a four-year starter for Athens Drive high school, was named MVP in 2000 and team co-captain her senior year. In 2000, she earned all-conference honors. Burke helped lead her team to many championships; including the Region III title, WAGS, Raleigh Shootout, Atlanta Cup, and Jefferson Cup. She was a member of the CASL Spartan Elite for eight years.
Burke was also a member of the varsity cross country team, where she was named Most Promising Runner in 1999. Her activities off the field are numerous as well. Burke was chosen for the Medical Science Academy, which is limited to 25 students every year, three times. She was also chosen for Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Burke has been a member of Health Occupation Students of America and Students Against Drunk Driving for three years. She works part-time at the Woodland Terrace Retirement Home.
Lopez, a four-year starter for Atlee high school, has led her team to three all-district championships. She was named to the all-academic team and to the all-district team three straight years. Lopez was named team MVP in 2001. Academically, Lopez was on the honor roll and in Who’s Who Among American High School Students.
