ETSU’s softball team had a pair of players honored by the Southern Conference when freshman Danielle Spetar was named the Player of the Week for March 18 and freshman Courtney Jenkins was named the Pitcher of the Week for March 11.
ETSU has now had three SoCon Players of the Week this season, with sophomore Tiffany Vandergriff having won the honor earlier this season.
Spetar led ETSU to a 4-1 record last week, including picking up a pair of wins over SoCon foe UNC Greensboro, by hitting .529 during the five games.
In a doubleheader sweep of Elon she went 4-for-6 with a double and two RBIs.
In a doubleheader sweep of UNCG on Saturday, she homered in each game and drove in a total of four runs for the afternoon.
For the week she had a pair of home runs, three doubles and stole a pair of bases.
Jenkins recorded a pair of wins for the Bucs at the Western Kentucky Invitational, notching victories over IUPUI and Morehead State.
She also picked up a pair of saves and threw three complete games.
For the week she totaled 26.1 innings and struck out 19 batters.
Notes: The Buccaneer softball team will next play at UT-Chattanooga with a doubleheader on March 23 and will finish the series on March 24. The team will return home on March 30 to face the College of Charleston.
