The 74th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies defeated the ETSU Lady Bucs’ tennis team 6-1 on last Sunday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Virginia Tech swept all three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches to claim the victory.
Ines Khelifi, ranked No. 83 in the latest Omni Hotel/Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, defeated Jessica Irey in the No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-1 while Ginger Lowdermilk cruised past Tatiana Arriaran at the No. 3 position 6-1, 6-4.
Carolyn Kramer won at No. 4 over Aimee Villavicencio 6-3, 6-2 and Zdenka Videnova defeated Heather Jones in the No. 5 match 6-1, 6-0. Bridget Bruner won her No. 6 match by default.
ETSU’s lone win of the day occurred at No. 2 where Meredith Vincent dropped a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 decision to Gemma Halim.
The Hokies opened the day with three doubles wins as Khelifi and Lowdermilk blanked Irey and Halim in the No. 1 match 8-0.
Kramer and Videnova then got a victory over Arriaran and Villavicencio, 8-4, at No. 2.
Virginia Tech’s Vincent and Ashleigh Sarver then won by default in the No. 3 doubles match over the Lady Bucs.
