In a conference matchup on Saturday the ETSU women’s tennis team fell to Appalachian State, 5-2.
This puts the Lady Bucs at 1-12 overall, with 0-3 in the Southern Conference while Appalachian State improves with 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
In the doubles game, Appalachian State walked away with three wins. Sophomore Jessica Irey and freshman Gemma Halim played a tough game, but lost to Tammy Beaulieu and Jennifer Fayad with a score of 9-8. The second match was another win for Appalachian State, as Kasis Finkowska and Elena Berger defeated sophomores Aimee Villavicencio and Tatiana Arriaran.
In the third match, Donna Altenburger and Melissa Burgette beat sophomore Heather Jones and junior Charmaine Luvis with a score of 8-0. The singles matches went a little more in ETSU’s favor, with Irey taking the victory from Berger with 6-4 and 7-6.
In the first match, Arriaran fell short to Beaulieu, 6-2 and 6-2. Halim won her games against Finkowska with a score of 6-3 and 6-3. Fayad took the victory for her match against Villavicencio in the No. 4 spot, 7-5 and 6-2. In the No. 5 match, ASU’s Altenburger defeated Jones , 6-3 and 6-1.
