ETSU senior golfer Adam Riddering fired a final-round even-par 72 to finish in a tie for ninth at 1-over-par and lead the Bucs to a 12th place finish in the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern University, on Sunday afternoon from Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga.
ETSU shot a 300 in the final round of the tournament, to finish 23 strokes behind team champion, No. 19-ranked Augusta State (284-285-296=865).
Riddering was very consistent in the weekend tournament, shooting his second-consecutive 72 on Sunday after carding a first-round 73 on Saturday morning.
The tie for ninth (73-72-72=217) is Riddering’s best finish of the season and is his best finish since a sixth place finish in the 2001 NCAA East Regional from Willaimsburg, Va. Justin Walters of North Carolina State (68-72-67=207) won individual medallist honors by five strokes after blistering the course for a final-round 67 on Sunday.
Fellow senior James Johnson also shot a 72 in his Sunday round, good enough for a tie for 12th (72-74-72=218) at 2-over-par, just one stroke behind Riddering.
Freshman Jeremy Hobson shot a final-round 76 to finish in a tie for 39th (73-74-76=223).
Freshmen Cennydd Mills and Marco Trejos fired matching 80’s in Sunday’s final round of play. Mills finished in a tie for 66th (76-74-80=230) and Trejos finished 74th (81-82-80=243).
