The College of Charleston pounded out 20 hits on its way to a 17-0 victory over the Buccaneers in Southern Conference baseball action at Cardinal Park last Friday night.
The Cougars also got some impressive pitching from Matt Rackers who held ETSU to four hits in eight innings on the mound.
The College of Charleston (24-13, 10-6 SoCon) was in control all the way, scoring in every inning but the eighth.
Victor Martinez drove in a pair of runs in a three-run third for Charleston before the Cougars put the game out of reach with five more scores in the fourth. The big blow for Charleston in that inning was a bases-loaded double by Brett Anderson that cleared the bases.
Rackers did the rest, at one point setting down 14 consecutive Buc hitters. He struck out three and walked just one to pick up his fifth win of the season. Brett Spivey, Zach Strong and Anderson all had three hits for the Cougars, with Anderson smacking a pair of doubles while driving in four runs and scoring twice.
Donnie Sharp was hit hard for ETSU after three straight strong outings, he gave up 10 hits and eight runs in just three innings on the mound. Scott Rose, Brandon Cross, Kirk Keithley and Michael Giroud collected the hits for the Bucs, with Cross and Giroud both getting doubles.

The Buccaneer baseball team took advantage of five errors by the College of Charleston to score six unearned runs as ETSU took an 8-5 Southern Conference baseball win at Cardinal Park Saturday afternoon.
The win evened the three-game series at one-game each.
ETSU (15-22, 8-9 SoCon) took advantage of its opportunities early, scoring four unearned runs in the first inning. With one out, Jeremy Terry and Brandon Cross singled to put runners on the corners. Caleb Moore then hit into a fielder’s choice to first, with Terry getting thrown out at the plate and Cross moving to third. Kirk Keithley then hit a bouncer to short that was misplayed, allowing Cross to score the first run of the game. Mike Giroud followed with a single that plated Moore.
Justin Clear followed with another RBI single and the Bucs were up 4-0.
ETSU added three more in the third to increase its advantage to 7-0.
Buccaneer starter Reid Casey was solid at the start of the game, setting down the first 11 hitters he faced before surrendering a single in the fourth. Charleston finally got to Casey in the fifth, getting three runs.
Casey notched his sixth win, going six innings and allowing five runs on seven hits. He struck out five against just one walk.
Giroud led the 13-hit Buccaneer attack, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored. Curtis, Strong and Anderson each had two hits to lead Charleston.
