The No. 2-seeded ETSU men’s tennis team defeated the No. 7-seeded Davidson Wildcats, 4-0, in the second round of the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Championships, Friday afternoon from the City of Charleston Farmfield Courts in Charleston, S.C.
The Bucs won the doubles point after sweeping the doubles matches from the Wildcats. The ETSU team of junior Marcos Pavlovich and senior Roberto Fernandez defeated Davidson’s tandem of Rob Haywood and Donald Miles, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles.
Junior Pablo Sahagun and sophomore Alejandro Salazar of ETSU defeated Wildcats Rob Gould and Chad Winebarger at No. 2 doubles, by an 8-2 score. ETSU sophomores Diego Iglesias and Moises Serrano did not finish their match at No. 3 doubles with Geoffrey Mullen and Jonathan Britt. The match ended with the score tied at seven.
ETSU kept its momentum going from the doubles matches, sweeping the singles matches as well. ETSU’s Fernandez defeated Davidson’s David Webb, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. At No. 4 singles, Iglesias was victorious over Britt of the Wildcats, 7-6, 6-0. And at No. 5 singles, Salazar won in straight sets, winning over Davidson’s Miles, 6-3, 6-4.
Pavlovich’s match at No. 1 singles, Sahagun’s match at No. 3 singles and Serrano’s match at No. 6 singles were not completed.
ETSU runs their record to 15-7 on the season. Davidson closes their season with a 12-13 record.
