ETSU’s men’s golf squad got its 2002-03 season officially underway this weekend, finishing sixth at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges, the fifth annual tournament hosted by the Bucs. Wake Forest took home top honors in the event, shooting a three-round score of 876 (287-294-295), defeating runner-up North Carolina by two strokes. ETSU shot an 886 (299-291-296) for the event.
The Bucs were led individually by James Johnson, who shot a 73 on the final day for a three-round total of 217 (74-70-73), good for eighth place overall and just two strokes off the top individual score in the tournament. Finishing just two shots behind Johnson in a tie for 13th was Jeremy Hobson with a score of 219 (72-72-75).
ETSU will swing into action next when the Bucs play at the Carpet Classic Collegiate in Dalton, Ga. on Sept. 27-29.
Five golfers took home a share of the medallist honors, with Leif Olson (Duke), Ian Parnaby (Tennessee), Dustin Bray (North Carolina), Bill Haas (Wake Forest) and David Schultz (TCU) all carding a one-under par 215 (-1) for the three rounds.
Adam Riddering finished third among the Buccaneers with a score of 223 (76-75-72), good for a tie for 24th. Cennydd Mills had a 230 (77-77-76) to finish tied for 55th and sophomore Marco Trejos carded a 232 (80-74-78) for a tie for 62nd to round out the scoring for the Bucs.
