Taking charge should be the motto for the Black Affairs Association, fittingly because that is exactly what they plan on doing this school year.
With a new president and new board members, the BAA has gained a new perspective unity, which has been the goal of President Erica Brooks.
Under the advisement of Laura Terry the group has planned many activities throughout the semester. On Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., there will be a pizza party in the Cave Patio located in the Culp Center.
On Friday, there will be another social gathering with music from 10 p.m.-2 a.m. at the same location, and the following evening, on Saturday, Sept. 28, Black Affairs will host a cookout in the Buc Ridge clubhouse.
The group will not only be involved in the homecoming events in October, but will have submitted two candidates, Jason Moore and Tiffany Holt, for Homecoming court to represent BAA.
“We are really going to do something this year,” Brooks said. “We will get people to communicate with each other.”
In November, the group will unite with other organizations to help with the Multicultural Fashion Show. Some of the members will be models while others will help with fliers, the gathering of participants and serving refreshments.
Black Affairs is now signing up anyone interested in taking part in one or all four committee groups that help the year run more smoothly. The public relations, fund raising, volunteer and event committees are open to any students willing to participate.
Meetings are held every other Wednesday, in the Forum Room on the third floor of the Culp Center.
