The ETSU women’s soccer team was defeated by Furman 2-1 this past Monday in Greenville, South Carolina. Furman scored on its first two shot attempts of the night as it tallied two goals in the first 20 minutes of play.
The Lady Bucs pulled to within 2-1 at the 74:03 mark on a counter-attack as Erin Ashton scored for ETSU. The Lady Paladins dominated play, but were held without another goal.
ETSU falls to 2-6-1, 1-3-1 in league play, and play their next match tomorrow at Carson-Newman.
Volleyball
The Lady Buc Volleyball squad (4-9) was defeated 3-1 by UNC Asheville on Tuesday night at Brooks Gymnasium. ETSU dropped its first game 30-24 before evening the score in the second game with a 30-24 victory of their own.
The Bulldogs cruised to 30-27 and 30-17 victories in games three and four, respectively, to seal the contest.
“We definitely missed some opportunities, and hit very poorly against a team that was not known for their blocking,” said Lady Buc coach Deane Webb. “We just need to learn a lesson in being more competitive as a team.”
Middle hitter Sara Scandiffio (Purcellville, Va.) registered a career-high 13 kills on 26 attempts with only two errors to lead the team in hitting percentage. She led ETSU in service aces (3) and tallied four block assists.
“Sara played very well,” Webb commented. “This was one of the better all-around games I have seen her play.”
Freshman setter Kristi Robinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) dished out 38 assists. Kate Stiedle (Waynesboro, Va.) led the Bucs with 14 Kills, going along with Robinson’s team-high 17 digs.
East Tennessee State will be looking to get back on the winning track with a pair of home contests this weekend. The Bucs will be in Brooks Gym against Southern Conference foe Wofford on Friday night at 7 p.m. before hosting Furman on Saturday at 2 p.m.
