The Mocs won the first five meetings, including the first two SoCon contests, before back to back wins by the Terriers in 1999 and 2000 that were both high scoring affairs… Wofford posted a 41-34 win at Chattanooga in 1999 and a 41-33 decision in Spartanburg in the 2000 season … The Mocs won in 2001 by posting a 29-26 victory in Chattanooga.
THE COACHES: Chattanooga head coach Donnie Kirkpatrick (Lenoir-Rhyne ’82) is in his third season as head coach of the Mocs and has an all-time record of 8-19 … Wofford head coach Mike Ayers (Georgetown, KY ’74) is in his 15th year with the Terriers and has a record of 84-73-1 … Ayers is in his 18th year as a college head coach with a record of 95-91-2… He was the SoCon Coach of the Year in 2000.
GAME NOTES: Wofford will face Chattanooga for its 2002 Homecoming game … The Mocs are looking for their first road league win since the 2000 season … Wofford went to College Park, MD last week and lost 37-8 to the Terrapins … The Mocs are coming off a 38-10 loss against Georgia Southern last week … The Terrier defense leads the SoCon in three different categories: passing defense (allowing 91.2 yards per game), passing efficiency defense (83.7 rating), and total defense (276.2 YPG) … The Terriers are ranked #20 this week in the ESPN/USA Today poll … Chattanooga is looking for QB Ryan McCann to come back on a full-time basis … He had missed three games due to injury but played in the second half last week against Georgia Southern.
