THE GAME: Furman holds a 20-8-3 advantage in the series with Appalachian State that dates back to 1971 … The two clubs have met every year since then … At Boone, the Paladins hold an 8-5-2 advantage but have lost the last two games at Kidd Brewer Stadium … Appy State and Furman combined for a thrilling triple overtime game in Greenville in ’91 that Appalachian won, 26-23 … ASU head coach Jerry Moore is 5-8 vs. Furman while the Paladins’ Bobby Lamb is looking for his first win as a head coach against the Mountaineers … Furman won last year’s game, 28-22, in Greenville … Both teams are undefeated in league play this season at 2-0 … Furman has won its last four SoCon games while Appalachian has won its last six … The last SoCon defeat for both teams came at the hands of Georgia Southern in the 2001 season… Both teams have been in the I-AA playoffs in each of the last three years.
THE COACHES: Furman head coach Bobby Lamb (Furman ’86) is in his first season as head coach with the Paladins and has a record of 4-1 … The SoCon career passing efficiency leader, Lamb spent 16 years as a Paladin assistant after earning league “Player of the Year” honors in 1985 … Appalachian State head coach Jerry Moore (Baylor ’61), in his 14th season as the head coach of the Mountaineers, is now the winningest coach in SoCon history with his record of 111-52 … Moore is in his 21st season as a college head coach with a record of 138-100-2 … Moore’s 111 career wins at Appalachian earns his place in the SoCon record book as the winningest head coach in SoCon history … Moore’s 111th win tops Wallace Wade’s 110 wins at Duke between 1931-50 … Moore was the SoCon coach of the year in ’91, ’94 and ’95.

GAME NOTES: Jerry Moore is now the winningest coach in SoCon history after his Mountaineers posted a 29-10 victory at ETSU on last week … App State will return home to face Furman … The Paladins faced WCU last week and squeezed by the Catamounts, 24-23 … The Mountaineer defense, which leads the SoCon in sacks, will look to slow down the Paladin’s league-leading passing offense … The Paladins also lead the SoCon in red zone offense, scoring 86.7 percent of the time they are inside the opposition’s 20 yard line … This could be difficult for the Mountaineers’ red zone defense which has only one stop in the red zone this season.
