Knoxville-born Chase Pattison has slowly been building a small but strong grassroots following through his energetic and “anything goes” approach to a live show.
Although you can occasionally catch him with his side band, “The Big Tease,” Chase usually captures the crowd with his highly emotional solo act. He will be playing this Friday at Halo’s Downtown Bar, on 211 E. Main St., starting around 10 p.m.
After creating self-made drums, rhythm, and background vocal loops live on stage, Chase’s roaring voice and lead guitar soar over the background drones in a musical array similar to no other. Soon after finishing a passionate original tune, he is able to surprise the crowd with a comical rendition of “Regulator” by Warren G and Nate Dogg, or even Marvin Gay’s “Sexual Healing.” Knoxshows.com describes Pattison and his work as “Simply an acoustic act like no other!”
Pattison picked up the guitar when he was 13 years old and developed a passion for the beloved pastime years ago. He began his debut album in July 2002 with hopes of release in Spring 2003. He plays at venues/bars around the state and visits the Carolinas to share his version of musical mystery with the locals.
His music has been featured on 94.3 Extreme Radio and his current CD, which is still in progress, is being produced and engineered by two-time Dove Award winner Travis Wyrick, with Gran Torino’s David Heyer on percussion.
His influences include Howie Day, Dave Matthews Band, Dispatch and John Mayer.
“The music sounds like if John Mayer was a one-man Radiohead,” Pattison said. Whether it is Sublime’s “Caress Me Down,” or the Dave Matthews Band’s “Song That Jane Likes,” to even O.A.R.’s “Crazy Game of Poker,” Pattison brings the songs to life again.
Pattison is gonna stir it up this Friday at Halo’s and intends on getting funky on the guitar. Chase often augments his four-piece band comprised of acoustic and electric guitar, bass and drums with the many guests that often appear on stage.
Whether it is violin, added percussion or female vocals, every show becomes a unique experience. So come on in to Halo’s this weekend and let the angels crack open a few bottles of cold delicious beer for you while the melodies of Chase Pattison soak into your soul.
