The Kidney Foundation is now asking for people to donate their old cars, vans, trucks, motorcycles and boats for the Kidney Cars program.
People can donate any vehicle even if it is not is working condition. Also, towing for the vehicle is free of charge.
The proceeds will benefit the patient services and education programs in East Tennessee.
“The only requirements include that it must have tires, an engine, a transmission and a clear title,” said Paul Sharp, Kidney Cars coordinator.
Anyone who donates may qualify for a tax deduction. To find out, contact your tax advisor. The National Kidney foundation provides donors with a tax deduction form.
It also provides many services and assistance to patients suffering from kidney disease.
“We ID jewelry, because there are many medicines and treatments that kidney patients cannot take,” said Tim Graham, senior program coordinator. “We offer financial assistance to those patients who cannot pay their rent, phone bills, utilities or transportation. We also organize social gatherings, such as holiday parties and publish a newsletter. A support group is also available.”
