THE GAME: Chattanooga holds a 15-13 edge in the series that began in 1973 … The Catamounts have won two of the last three and six of the last 10 while the Mocs have taken four of the last seven … In Cullowhee, the Cats hold a 9-6 series advantage and have not lost to the Mocs at home since a 20-6 decision in 1996 … Donnie Kirkpatrick is 0-2 vs. WCU while Kent Briggs is in search of his first win against UTC … Last year in Chattanooga, the Cats posted a 21-3 win.
THE COACHES: Chatta-nooga head coach Donnie Kirkpatrick (Lenoir-Rhyne ’82) is in his third season as head coach of the Mocs and has an all-time record of 8-21 … Kent Briggs (Western Carolina ’79) is in his first season at Western Carolina and has a record of 3-5 … Briggs was a Catamount assistant coach from 1980-88 and was most recently the defensive coordinator at Connecticut.
GAME NOTES: WCU went to Spartanburg to face Wofford last week and fell 31-24 … Chattanooga was at home against VMI last week and dropped a 35-31 decision … UTC LB Josh Cain had 17 tackles and keeps his streak of eight consecutive games with double digit tackles alive, dating back to last season … Cain and the UTC defense will have to contend with the Catamount offensive line which has only allowed eight sacks this season … If the game comes down to a kick, the Mocs will rely on Patrick Shutters who is perfect on field goals this season.
