ETSU’s women’s soccer team fell to the College of Charleston, 2-0, Sunday at Patriots Point Field.
The Cougars scored their first goal of the game at the 17:27 mark as Sydney Strong’s shot from just beyond the box sailed into the back of the net to score what would become the game winner. The first period ended with Charleston leading 1-0.
In the second period Charleston freshman Megan Broderick received a pass from Becca Eddy and scored to put the Cougars up 2-0 in the 53rd minute.
Charleston out-shot East Tennessee 12-5, and had six corner kicks to the Bucs 1.
Buc keeper Heather Sanden had six saves, before leaving the game at the 81:42 mark due to injury.
On Friday, Georgia Southern used a strong second half to defeat the Bucs 3-0.
The Eagles, who led 1-0 at halftime, out-shot the Buccaneers 15-4 while scoring a pair of goals in the final 45 minutes.
Amanda Bernard netted the first GSU score of the half at the 65:06 mark as she took a feed from Genevieve Ward sending a shot from 12 yards out into the back of the net. Lindsey Cummings also earned an assist on the play.
In the 72nd minute of action, Bernard earned an assist on the Eagles’ final goal as she fed the ball to Jessica Rice to finalize the score at 3-0.
Georgia Southern opened the scoring in the 28th minute of play as Grisaffe sent a pass into the box, which was picked up by Katy
For the game, Georgia Southern out-shot ETSU 20-4 and owned an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. Sanden made eight saves for the Bucs while Eagle keeper Tanya Woehr had four.
ETSU will host Morehead State in their final match of the regular season on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Prior to the game Buccaneer seniors, Lena Summers and Elizabeth Smith will be honored.
