Dear Editor:
The intent of this letter is not to offend the avid readers and staunch supporters of the poorly researched, opinion-based column The Scorpion’s Nest. Rather, it is to point out the discrepancies between columnist Marianne Steffey’s viewpoints and the actuality of the issues therein.
I must say, I do enjoy reading columns such as God Save Rock ‘n’ Roll and other articles, but for some reason, every week, I wind up reading the Scorpion’s Nest. And for a number of reasons, I end up disappointed.
In the article regarding Andy Rooney’s chauvinistic remarks about female sportscasters, I have to say I agree that his comments are sexist, and the article successfully argues the writer’s point … sort of. The writer makes a statement about penis envy. But wait. In an article that complains about sexist men, which seems to be a reocurring issue in the column, Steffey refers to the Freudian idea of penis envy … Sigmund Freud was a man.
My suggestion is this: perhaps the writer should read more closely certain psychological ideals.
