Five Foot Mullet is a group of guys with alter egos that play in a rock band.
Members are Brandon “TC” Arsenault (guitar), Matt “Pattycakes” Stevens (singer), Mark “Papaw” Hendrix, and Jerrad “Golden Boy” Daniels (drums).
“We bring to the table something different,” Hendrix said.
With alter egos showing, the guys of Five Foot Mullet grasp the attention of the audience as soon as they step onstage. Shows are energetic and entertaining.
“We’re all pretty laid back cats but when the mullet comes out I’m an animal,” Arsenault said.
“We only break it out when I have to,” Stevens said.
Make no mistake: the guys aren’t making fun of anyone with a mullet. They aren’t even making fun of rednecks. They all say that they are merely getting in touch with their “Southern side.”
“We are stereotyping ourselves,” said Stevens. “We are poking fun at us.”
“We are all undercover rednecks,” said Hendrix.
Five Foot Mullet is a mix of seasoned veteran rock stars and young raw talent. Three of the members have been practicing their instruments for six years and one of them for 10. It shows in the music.
Mullet sounds like rap-rock but the guys would fiercely tell you that they have very little rap-rock influence behind their songs. Punk, rock, jazz and even country have been their biggest influences.
When the band sits down to write a riff, they use experiences from their lives to tell a story through music.
“We build off each other,” said Hendrix. “We collaborate. One of us writes a simple tune, the other matches it with something different, the lyrics are written and we have a song.”
“We just want you to see and hear something you have never seen before,” said Stevens.
The stage show complete with alter egos isn’t all that Five Foot Mullet brings to the table. They will rock you hard. The band has tight grooves with peircing guitars that would make any mullet man bang their locks to the beat.
“Yes we are almost humorous, but the music gets across,” said Arsenault.
“We wanted to downplay the stereotype of all in our region,” said Hendrix. “When you come see us just remember, don’t judge a book by its cover.”
