Tennessee Tech freshmen Courtney McFarlin and Jenna Baltimore provided an effective inside-outside combination as the Golden Eaglettes made a successful debut with an 18-point homecourt win over the East Tennessee State Lady Bucs Friday night.
In all, freshmen accounted for 62 of Tech’s 74 points. The Golden Eaglettes never trailed in the contest and withstood a second-half ETSU rally.
After the Eaglettes led by as many as 12 in the first half, the Lady Bucs cut the margin to three by halftime, 30-27.
It was a one-point game, 35-34, with 15:31 remaining when Tech put together a 19-6 run to build a double-digit lead, 54-40, and East Tennessee never got closer than 10 points the remainder of the contest.
Lauren Trantham led the Lady Bucs with 12 points and 14 rebounds coming off the bench, while Samantha Copeland led ETSU with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go along with eight rebounds.
Adrienne Walker added 12 points in her debut as the Lady Bucs point guard.
Tech’s Tynisha Alexander had six rebounds and was one of four Tech players with four assists, while Tamara Gilyard added eight rebounds.
Emily Christian shook off a tough night of shooting (3-for-10) to contribute a solid all-around game with seven points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals.
