Stormy Monday is a band that might just storm into your heart.
Right out of East Tennessee, the five-member band delivers strong lyrics, great guitar melodies and an entertainingly spirited atmosphere at every show.
The band takes pride in being a fun, good time group. “[We play] lively, down home music that everyone likes to shake their ass to” Collin McHenry said.
Lead by the bluesy voices of Brandon Renfro and McHenry, the group’s ‘down home’ music is a synthesis of rock, country and blues.
Todd Kane carries the role of lead guitar with ease, and plays a mean slide guitar.
McHenry also plays lead and rhythm guitar, while Randy Little holds them together with flowing rhythm guitar skill.
Ian Feathers provides smooth bass lines and Renfro also establishes a subtle, yet aggressive drum beat.
The band covers songs from the Allman Brothers Band to Merle Haggard, but they always give their music their own special flavor.
Stormy Monday generates many original songs as well. Past and present experiences are a big influence on the lyrics and most are inspired from the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina area.
Their varied style is evident, from the Southern rock push of “Circles” to the witty lyrics of “Josephine” and the reflective prose of “Hard Road Outta Texas.” Their five-song live CD is titled One Night Only and the group is working on a studio album.
The guys are a friendly and outgoing group who love the outdoors almost as much as their music.
Their interests are almost as varied as their musical style.
Renfro enjoys fishing, while Kane would rather snow ski.
Little found time outside of his assistant principal position to summit Mt. Ranier this past year.
McHenry is nicknamed “The Educated Hippie” for his extensive musical knowledge and style.
Feathers is also a talented trumpet player.
These good-hearted gentlemen have given back to the community in several benefits recently.
They performed at a “Walk for Life” cancer benefit in Elizabethton, a benefit for cerebral palsy and recently worked with a motorcycle club to raise money to help kids this Christmas.
Stormy Monday also performs annually at the Blue Plum Festival in Johnson City and the Rhythm and Roots Festival in Bristol.
This fun-to-watch, lively band provides a party atmosphere at every show.
“We’re just trying to play some rock ‘n’ roll that people can dance and have a good time with,” Renfro said.
Stormy Monday’s second annual Christmas party will be held at one of their favorite places to play, the Down Home, on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 9 p.m. and is guaranteed to be a good time.
