“The NASCAR Experience” offers long-time and new fans of the sport an opportunity to gain insight by hearing the racing story from industry insiders in the time leading up to the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in March 2003.
This series of six seminars, sponsored by the ETSU Office of Professional Development and ETSU at Bristol in conjunction with Bristol Motor Speedway, will take place Thursdays, Jan. 23-Feb. 27, from 6-7 p.m. Each seminar will last approximately 45 minutes, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session. The seminars and their locations are: “Introduction to NASCAR” (Jan. 23, ETSU at Bristol) — Jeff Byrd, general manager of Bristol Motor Speedway, will discuss the history of the sport and much more; “The Car” (Jan. 30) — Will be held at and presented by Morgan/McClure Motorsports, 26502 Newbanks Road, Abingdon, Va.; “How to Speak NASCAR” (Feb. 6, ETSU at Bristol) — Wayne Estes, vice president of Speedway Communications, will cover NASCAR jargon, terminology and how terms originated; “So You Want to Work in NASCAR” (Feb. 13, ETSU at Bristol) — This panel discussion features Byrd and representatives from NASCAR and R.J. Reynolds; “Women in NASCAR” (Feb. 20, ETSU at Bristol) — Speedway management employees Lori Worley and Emily Roselle, along with Deb Williams, editor of Winston Cup Scene, will discuss opportunities for women within the sport; and ‘The Big Show Behind the Scenes: How We Put It All Together” (Feb. 27, Bristol Motor Speedway) — Speedway staff will describe the huge effort that goes into coordinating a race.
Participants may attend any or all of the seminars.
Registration for individual seminars is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under when accompanied by a paid adult.
For those wishing to attend the entire series, special “6-Pack Pricing” is $50 for adults and $25 for children 12 and under when accompanied by a paid adult. Everyone who completes all six programs will receive a “Certified NASCAR Fan” certificate of attendance.
