STATESBORO, GA. — Appalachian State jumped out to a 17-point, first-half lead and held off a Georgia Southern rally in the second period to remain undefeated in SoCon play with an 87-81 victory Monday night.
Shawn Hall led the Mountaineers with 20 points. Nate Carson finished with 19, while Graham Bunn added 16. Jonathan Mitchell scored 13 of ASU’s 21 tallies off the bench and Josh Shehan added 11 points and 16 rebounds.
Julius Jenkins led all scorers with a season-high 31 points for the Eagles.

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Tony Carter converted four free throws over the final nine seconds of play and scored a season-high 20 points to lead Furman to the win over Western Carolina.
With Furman leading 67-65, Carter was fouled with nine seconds left and drained two free throws to give the Paladins a 69-65 advantage. When Western Carolina pulled within two at 69-67, Carter was fouled again on the inbounds play and sank another pair of free throws for the winning margin.

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Senior guard Mike Lenzly scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds to help Wofford handle The Citadel, 69-54, in SoCon action.
The Citadel turned the ball over 19 times and connected on just 4-of-23 3-point attempts. Junior forward Max Mombollet and senior center Gregg Jones were the lone bright spots for the Bulldogs on the evening. Mombollet posted a game-high 19 points and collected seven rebounds, while Jones scored nine points and pulled down nine boards.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Ray Trowell’s 3-pointer with 4:54 to play capped a 17-2 Chattanooga run Monday and gave the Mocs the lead for good in their victory over Davidson. The win pushed UTC’s SoCon record to 4-0, its best league start since 1993-94.
Trowell stole a Davidson pass and made a reverse layup around a defender to knot the score at 58-all at the 5:30 mark. His three-pointer on the next possession enabled UTC to come back from a 12-point deficit.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Josh Gross scored a career-high 17 points to lead the UNC Greensboro over VMI. The victory snapped a 10-game losing skid for UNCG.
