Our moms have at least one kitchen cabinet full of it. We’ve all probably brought some of it back with us when we come back to school after a weekend home with the family.
This popular item is Tupperware. There seems to be no lack of it in millions of homes across America. It can be found in the cabinets, the pantry, the fridge and freezer and can even travel to the office.
There are even parties in which women can get together, eat finger foods, check out different shapes and sizes of Tupperware and buy whatever products they wanted. They even get handy tips on how best to take care of their new possessions.
This idea is not lost on society today. There are still demonstration parties that occur. But, there’s a brand new generation that is putting its own spin on your typical in-home party.
You won’t find college students going to a Tupperware party – that type of novelty is not something that really is an attractive idea to those in their early 20s. Besides, we can just “borrow” some of Mom’s – preferably if it has food in it. Instead, we have our own type of party – of the adult novelty variety.
These parties specialize in sensual products, including lingerie, lotions and novelty items – a.k.a toys. The basic concept of a demonstration party is still there though. This just isn’t your mother’s Tupperware.
The concept is completely the same actually. One woman will decide she wants to host one of these parties, and she invites all her friends. They come over at the scheduled time to see what the representative has to offer. The hostess even gets a commission of the total sales of the party in merchandise credit. Yes, this is just like she’s getting free goodies.
These parties are ladies only, and while we might blush a little bit, things are kept tasteful. The company representative presents an informative but fun presentation of a variety of products. They even get a “little” freebie just for being there.
Representative Pam Patterson, at a recent “Sugar & Spice” party in Johnson City, was nothing but professional, so while there might have been a few blushes among the partygoers, it wasn’t because she was saying anything she shouldn’t.
There were still finger foods and demonstrations of what the products are meant to do. And we were still able to buy whatever items we saw that we liked. However, these sales went on privately and were completely confidential. After all, adult novelty items aren’t exactly what you could keep in your kitchen cabinet.
There were a variety of products presented to the partygoers. Some were edible and actually tasty. Some were scented and more for sensation that anything else. Yes, some were even battery-operated items. A variety of products were on display, and the representative answered all questions and volunteered any extra information that she could.
While the party might be for ladies only, there are products for women and couples that are intended to “spice” up the relationship, including creams, games and yes, toys.
So, what this all boils down to is that college students are not exactly content with Tupperware and all the excitement that it offers. They crave more.
They want something that is as invigorating and stimulating as society demands. Has an adult novelty party become the Tupperware party of the new millennium? It’s an interesting theory, but one that is quite possible.
There definitely won’t be many college students that will go to a Tupperware party with their mom. Of course, hopefully, there won’t be many moms trying to attend an adult novelty party with their daughters. Some things don’t mix.
However, these parties can span different age groups. A person does not necessarily have to be in their early 20s in order to prefer adult novelties to plastic containers. To some, that might simply be a sign of good taste.
Tupperware is the past, and adult novelties are the future, or at least the present. However, what does this say for a society in which for many something of a sex toy nature is a taboo topic?
Perhaps life just needed a little “sugar and spice” added to it.
