Oh the internal conflict that arrives when I sit down to watch “Jackass Number Two”. Do I rise above the dumbed-down antics of this ‘movie’ or do I relax, and allow myself to laugh, and be made to feel uncomfortable by watching this film? Ultimately, I chose the second option.
With a title like “Jackass Number Two”, you have to know exactly what you are getting into. If you loathed the first film and the series as a whole, then obviously this movie is not for you. However, fans of the first film should expect the repetitive nature of the insane stunts and seriously gross experiments from years past which have drawn in legions of followers.
While the plot is simply non-stop slapstick from beginning to end, I would have to say that the action has bumped up a notch from Johnny Knoxville and the gang’s previous endeavors. Most of the extreme action I’m afraid I cannot recount in a college publication, but some notable scenes included the use of Steve-O as shark bait and Knoxville’s daring attempt to launch himself on a rocket to the moon. I’m sure you could guess as to whether he made it or not.
The usual cast of characters included Chris Pontius, Bam Margera, Chris Dunn and several others make for one fraternal cocktail with a heavy dose of homoerotic overtones. The boys even do a number from “La Cage Aux Folles”, and in case you don’t know, “La Cage Aux Folles” is a play centered on the lives of the gay couple Georges and Albin.
All in all the film attained the impossible; it was more disgusting and brought to the screen several dangerous antics on a larger scale.
Again, I am not sure I should admit to liking this movie, but who cares; sometimes I need a dose of mindless entertainment. I think reviewer Sean Burns of the Philadelphia Weekly said it best when he stated that the film is, “As awesome as it is stupid.”
This film is rated R for extremely crude and dangerous stunts throughout, sexual content, nudity, and language and can be viewed here in Johnson City at Real to Reel Cinemas.
