Dear Editor,
A new semester will soon be starting at ETSU.
Students will pile in once again from different regions to start the new school year.
Some will be finishing up their education, while others just beginning.
Will the question of ETSU football, be an issue again this year?
If so, will more students get to voice their opinions?
Wanting to bring back the football program that hasn’t been active since November 2003, the boards permitted ETSU students to voice their opinions on the return of the program and the outcome was not in their favor this school year.
The students should get another vote in order to bring the program back.
Many of the students did not realize what the program could entail.
A football program at ETSU will unite students, create school spirit, increase school publicity and increase student participation in school events.
This type of program which unites students and creates school spirit relates to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.
The Civil Rights Movement began with people coming together for a common objective.
This movement was focused on moving toward equality for every man, woman and child in the United States.
Not only did the movement bring people together it lifted the spirits of everyone involved in the movement.
People were finally getting a say in the way they sought life.
With increasing publicity, many people from different states came to participate in this historic event.
ETSU simply needs to bring it’s own civil rights movement for the football program.
In conclusion, the people of ETSU will have to continue to fight for the football program.
Just like the people within the Civil Rights Movement, continuous interest and willingness to stand for a good cause will eventually be heard by the opposition of the football program.
This will ultimately bring about more school spirit and positive publicity for ETSU.
