Dear Editor,
I was appalled to read a recent letter to the editor that choose to compare the failed efforts to bring ETSU’s football program back to the decades long struggle for civil rights (see May 15 issue, Football and civil rights).
It is absolutely shameless to compare something that is a matter of opinion, such as the football program, to the hardships that have been endured by so many African Americans who have fought for equality.
The comparison shows a complete ignorance of what the civil rights movement did for America, and inflates the football issue woefully out of proportion.
Regardless of one’s opinion on the football program, comparing a game to the struggle for human rights should be recognized for what it is; nonsense.
