“Our Universe – A Guided Tour” is the topic of a free public planetarium show to be held at ETSU’s Hutcheson Hall planetarium on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m.
“Our understanding of the early universe is rather thorough, going back to (a split second) after it started,” says program presenter Dr. Robert Gardner, ETSU professor of mathematics and adjunct professor of physics and astronomy.
“This show will give some explanation concerning the ‘Big Bang’ and the early universe.”
Gardner will describe the universe in terms of galaxies and clusters of galaxies, showing the location of planet Earth and its position in its own galaxy, the Milky Way.
The tour will end with a “flight” through the solar system, from the sun to the outer-most objects, such as Pluto and other celestial bodies.
