Grammy Award-nominated Swedish trumpet player Niklas Eklund will perform in a Guest Artist Recital, “Natural Trumpet Virtuoso,” Friday.
Sponsored by the East Tennessee State University Department of Music, this recital begins at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 105 S. Boone St. Admission at the door is a $10 suggested donation.
Eklund, who trained at the School of Music and Musicology of GÓteborg University, Sweden, is considered the world’s foremost authority and performer on the natural trumpet.
A former solo trumpet with the Basle (Switzerland) Radio Symphony Orchestra, he has appeared with several leading ensembles and conductors, including Zubin Mehta, John Eliot Gardner, Robert King, Gustav Leonhardt, the London Baroque, New York’s Bach Ensemble, the Drottningholm (Sweden) Baroque Ensemble and the English Baroque Soloists.
In 1996, he was the first prize winner of the first Altenburg International Baroque Trumpet Competition.
