There is a new intramural registration system at ETSU this fall with the potential to be a smart and efficient way to keep up with the many sport activities the campus has to offer, faculty and students say.
The program, contained completely on-line, will affect all involved with intramural sports.
ETSU is one of the first colleges to use imleagues, the new registration system. Imleagues helps facilitate simpler ways for the college’s Intramural Director, team leaders, and student athletes to interact with each other through an online program with similar features to the popular Facebook or MySpace.
Imleagues, however, has features that are specific to the sport or sports the student signs up with. The program is also designed specifically for the use of a university’s intramural department.
“One of the best things about imleagues is that it is absolutely free,” said Adam Knobloch, Intramural Sports Coordinator. “There is no cost to ETSU, thus there is no cost to the ETSU students.”
When using Imleagues, students can add friends, check messages, check the weather, view team, group and school announcements, upload photos and create a team site with a calendar, pictures, and message boards.
Users can also check team standings, customize their profiles, check on updates for upcoming games, learn the location of games, and get e-mail messages about cancellations.
The Intramural Coordinator says that the program has also made his job a little easier. Imleagues keeps track of players, keeps up with documentation and easily sends out important announcements like game cancellations.
“In the past, teams would sign up for a sport, come to the captain meeting and turn in a Game Time Request Form,” Knobloch said. “I would then spend hours and hours trying to make a schedule that would accommodate everyone as best as possible. Now, teams can sign up for a division that plays on Tuesdays from 4-7 and they know in advance when they will play. It definitely saves me time too.”
With all of these changes, Knobloch said, the response to the system has been positive.
“This is a major change with our program, and like any other major change, there will be a transitional period,” he said. “Participants just need to be patient during this process.”
To make an account with imleagues go to www.imleagues.com. (a link is provided on the intramural sports website, www.etsu.edu/IMSports), click on the “Sign up” link, enter the information needed, and submit.
You will then be asked to change your password. After changing your password, the East Tennessee State University link should show up. Click “Join School.” To sign up for a specific intramural sport, click on the “East Tennessee State University” link.
The current sports are displayed toward the bottom of the screen. Click on the sport you wish to join. Choose the league you wish to play (i.e. Men’s A, Men’s B, Women, etc.).
You can create a team if you are a team captain, join a team, or join as a free agent, or a person who will be put on a team at a later time.
Note: Teams without the minimum number of joined players by the entry deadline will be removed from the division.
