Dr. Veronica Gunn, chief medical officer for the Tennessee Department of Health, will be the keynote speaker at the 12th Annual Women’s Health Across the Life Cycle: A Comprehensive Approach, a one-day conference hosted by ETSU’s James H. Quillen College of Medicine.
The conference will be held on Friday, Sept. 19, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at The Millennium Centre.
Before assuming the chief medical officer position with the Department of Health, Gunn served as medical director of the Tennessee Governor’s Office of Children’s Care Coordination, a post she had held since 2005. She is also an assistant professor of pediatrics at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. The title of her keynote address is “The State of Women’s Health in Tennessee.”
Topics to be addressed at the conference include vitamin D and women’s health; an update on breast cancer diagnosis and treatment; common dermatological conditions in women; a panel discussion on the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine; and a series of roundtable discussions on these and other topics, including photo aging and its treatment and herbal supplements and phytoestrogens. Posters highlighting various research studies in women’s health will also be on display throughout the conference.
The conference is open to all primary care and subspecialty physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, residents, medical and other health professions students and health care professionals with an interest in women’s health.
The Quillen College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The ETSU Office of Continuing Medical Education designates this educational conference activity for a maximum of 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.
As an Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)-approved provider, ETSU offers CME credit for educational activity that is acceptable by the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) for nurse practitioner recertification and by the NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) for physician assistant recertification.
