Dear Editor,
I’ve been a student here for two years, and have taken out student loans and received various grants each semester.
Every semester the Financial Aid Department has had an excuse as to why the money I intended to use for the necessities of life was delayed for up to a month and a half.
Once could have been an honest mistake, twice could have been coincidental, by the third time a trend had emerged, the fourth time verifies that trend; Financial Aid at this university is broken.
This is the third financial aid office I’ve dealt with, as I’ve attended UT-Knoxville and Pelissippi State.
Neither UT’s nor Pellissippi’s Financial Aid departments delayed my receiving of funds more than one week.
What is the cause of Financial Aid’s failure?
Perhaps they are understaffed, or perhaps the student workers are not well enough trained, but whatever the cause, they must fix the broken department.
The university does a great disservice to its students by not taking corrective action concerning Financial Aid.
When incompetence is left to fester success is never achieved.
