North Carolina defeats men’s soccerA four-goal effort by North Carolina’s Brian Shriver proved to be too much, as the ETSU men’s soccer team was defeated by the 15th-ranked Tar Heels Saturday night at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, N.C., 8-0.
In the second half, North Carolina added to its lead scoring two more goals in the 57th minute as Shriver earned a hat trick as he netted a cross from Eddie Ababio to make the score 4-0.
The Bucs are back in action on Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. as they will face North Florida in the first conference match of the season at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
ETSU softball takes care of business
at fall tournament
Despite battling chilly and damp conditions, the ETSU softball team persevered and took care of business at its second annual Blue/Gold Tournament on Saturday at Metro-Kiwanis Park.
The Lady Bucs began the morning with an 11-3 victory over King College in six innings, and quickly took the field 30 minutes later and defeated Roane State, 17-1, in five innings. Then, in the nightcap, ETSU battled through some soggy conditions and swept away the tournament field with a 3-1 game-shortened win over Mars Hill.
Buc volleyball drops match to FGCU, 3-1
The ETSU volleyball team dropped a hard-fought match to Florida Gulf Coast Saturday afternoon at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Fla., 3-1.
The Eagles jumped to an early lead taking the first set, but the Bucs looked to have taken control of the match after taking the second set and jumping out in front in the third set. The Bucs (5-9, 2-5 A-Sun) were led by McKayla Barber (Columbus, Ind.) who tallied 13 kills in the match and had a .478 attack percentage. Junior Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) had another double-double as she collected 19 assists and 11 kills.
The Bucs are back in action on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. as they will face Kennesaw State at home in Brooks Gym.
