Dear Editor,
I have combed through the ETSU catalog a dozen times and do not find even the slightest mention of the “Academic Common Market,” of which ETSU is an active member. The provisions of the ACM agreement allow Tennessee residents to attend out of state colleges and universities and pay in-state tuition provided that the particular degree you seek is not offered within your own state. This agreement between 16 Southern states applies to graduate and undergraduate programs and should be broadcast to the student population instead of being swept under the proverbial rug for the past 50 years. You can get all the information you might need by contacting the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) http://www.sreb.org/. Appalachian State offers an M.A. in Appalachian Studies as well as a B.A. and a certificate.
