Buc Paintball went back into action last Saturday in the SEC that was played in Columbus, Ga.
ETSU played against eight teams, including teams from Middle Tennessee State University,
the universities of Tennessee,
Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia, Florida State and Auburn. They won all eight games in a row finished the tournament undefeated.
It was a last-minute decision to even go to the tournament since it was so far away, and the team had not even been on their regular practices of once a week. However, it proved to be a good decision to go since they now have an additional 100 points toward the nationals.
“Since it was a seven-hour drive, we weren’t planning on going,” said team president
Gary Wills. “It was short notice, but after looking at the rulebook and figuring out how they do series points, we figured
it would be the best interest
for our team to go.”
Buc Paintball has picked up a new sponsor, Visions Unlimited
Photography.
The team has come in first place at each tournament that has been played this year, putting
them in first place with a perfect score of 200 points toward the nationals, followed by Clemson with 169.14 in second, ERAU with 131.86 in third and FGCU with 103.57. The next pending tournament is scheduled for Nov. 8 in Chattanooga,
which will be hosted by UT.
So what is it that separates Buc Paintball from the other teams? One advantage is possibly
that many members of the team have been playing in paintball tournaments together since high school.
Wills says the thing that separates them from the rest is that, “whenever a teammate is having a bad day, the rest of us pick up the slack. It’s also about having fun. A lot of teams get so tense – they practice and that’s all they do – but we just have fun with it. Once you get past the fun it just feels like work.”
